Working

Jobs to Do in the Garden this Month

In these exceptional times, keep safe and keep gardening

  • Frostly weather is coming so continue to get the garden ready and protect any tender perennials by moving or mulching

  • Gather fallen leaves and make leaf mould - pack the leaves into a thick black bin bag with a few holes in it, or into a dedicated compost bin, and leave for a year

  • Plant out any last remaining winter bedding and spring bulbs

  • Tidy perennial grasses and bamboos and continue to clear the top stems of faded perennials where appropriate

  • Lightly prune roses to reduce root damage by wind-rock

  • In the vegetable garden, finish planting winter garlic and continue to harvest brassicas, carrots, leeks, chard and the last of any beetroot

  • As always, make sure you take some time to enjoy your garden and the beautiful countryside around you.

From Facebook...

We saw the bumber harvest of grapes last month - now here's the result
Thankfully harvested before the starlings feasted
It's really the perfect time for fungi...
And proof you can grow an excellent crop of bell peppers from a supermarket-bought fruit
