Jobs to Do in the Garden this Month
In these exceptional times, keep safe and keep gardening
Harden off tender annuals by exposing them to cooler day temperatures but protect at night, then start planting out once the risk of frosts are past
Half-hardy annuals can be sown directly into warm, well prepared soil
Rain at the end of April will mean grass will need cutting more regularly - little and often is better than an occasional big cut
Puddle-in plants when planting out - dig a hole, fill with water and allow to drain - this will encourage deep roots and will delay the need for watering
Protect brassicas with fine nets to prevent attack by pigeons and Cabbage White butterflies
Sow beans and peas
Remember to stop and enjoy your garden!
